Brief Summary:

People who have a high blood cholesterol levels are often given a statin medication (e.g. Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor) to prevent a heart attack or stroke. Unfortunately, not everyone who is given a stain will achieve a blood cholesterol goal to achieve the best protection against having heart attack or stroke. Also, some people find that they have a hard time tolerating a statin. So scientists are constantly looking for new medications that can help out when these circumstances appear. We are currently helping to test one such medication; these new studies are described below.

Study Summary and Key Inclusion / Exclusion Criteria:

Study #1 - Do you want to try a new cholesterol lowering medication along with a PCSK9 inhibitor, Rapatha, which is a newly approved medication to treat your cholesterol?

Doctors at National Clinical Research are studying an investigational product (IP) which is being added to Rapatha. Both medications are supplied at no cost to the participant in this study. The purpose of this research study is to determine how much the new medication adds to the lowering of cholesterol over what is achieved with Rapatha.


To qualify for this study, you must:

  • Be willing to stop all current cholesterol treatment for the duration the study
  • Have a LDL Cholesterol level greater than 160 mg/dL when "OFF" cholesterol treatment. (If your LDL is > 100 "ON" cholesterol treatment, you may qualify)
  • Not taking Zocor (Simvastatin) 40 mg or higher

Study #2 - Are you taking Zetia (ezetimibe), or a low dose statin, or only a diet to treat your high cholesterol?

Doctors Doctors at National Clinical Research are studying an investigation product (IP) which is being added to Zetia for high blood cholesterol. The purpose of this study is to determine how much the new medication adds to the lowering of cholesterol over what is achieved with Zetia alone. Everyone participating in this study will receive given Zetia at no cost.


To qualify for this study, you must:

  • Have a LDL Cholesterol level above 100 mg/dL if you are already receiving Zetia or a small dose statin OR a LDL cholesterol level above 120 mg/dL if you are only following a cholesterol lowering diet
  • Have a triglycerides level below 500 mg/dL
