| Brief Summary: |
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an abnormal heart rhythm that results in irregular heart beats. Patients with AF have a higher risk of having a stroke and other blood clot complications. For this reason, patients with AF are often given a blood-thinning drug, such as Warfarin, to reduce the risk of forming a clot. Unfortunately, treatment with warfarin requires the patient to frequently monitor a blood test to make sure they don’t run the risk of bleeding. A phase III study is being conducted to compare the use of Warfarin (the standard) with a new, investigational blood thinning medication that is more easily managed and does not require frequent blood testing. |
