| Brief Summary: |
There are a number of studies currently available for people who have type II (adult onset) diabetes. Most of these studies are designed to evaluate new classes of medications which assist your body in the production of insulin. Other potential benefits of these new drugs are that they are less likely to lower your blood sugar to dangerous levels and they have not been associated with weight gain. Most importantly, these new drugs will provide your doctor with another diabetes treatment that can work along with your existing medications to control your diabetes. |
| Key Inclusion / Exclusion Criteria: |
To qualify for these nation-wide studies, your blood sugar levels need to be higher than they should be. If you do not know what you blood sugar level is, we will be happy to test this for you at no charge. Additionally, you may qualify for one of these studies if you fit into one of the following categories.
- Taking metformin (Glucophage) only for your diabetes
- Taking metformin with a sulfonylurea, pioglitazone, or rosiglitazone
- Taking no medications but following a low sugar diet
